Dear Patient
As you will be aware the government has announced a national lockdown from 5th November to the 2nd December 2020. Within the announcement the government has clarified that there will be no shielding category as there was in the first wave but they will be writing out to patient who due to their medical conditions will be defined within a ‘Clinically Extremely Vulnerable’ group. This group should work from home if possible and if not possible to work from home then should avoid going to work and claim sick pay.
Your GP surgery is not involved in identifying who will be within the clinically extremely vulnerable group and this will be entirely with the government. If you feel you should be classed within the clinically extremely vulnerable group and have not received a government letter, then you must discuss this with your employer and come to a mutually acceptable decision.
Please do not contact your GP surgery requesting letters for your employer to highlight your medical condition(s) and the need for you to be classified within the clinically extremely vulnerable group, they will not be able to support you. In the current climate there is extremely high demand on GP services from patients who are ill, both due to COVID-19 and non COVID-19 causes and accordingly do not have the resources to support any request for letters for employers.
Yours sincerely
Your GP Surgery
