The early symptoms of peri-menopause and menopause can vary widely between women, but they’re caused by fluctuating and declining oestrogen levels. Here’s a breakdown of the most common early signs: 

🌡️ Physical Symptoms 

  • Irregular periods – cycles may become shorter, longer, lighter, or heavier. 
  • Hot flushes – sudden feelings of heat, often in the face, neck, or chest. 
  • Night sweats – sweating that disturbs sleep. 
  • Sleep problems – difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. 
  • Fatigue – feeling unusually tired or lacking energy. 
  • Headaches – can become more frequent or intense. 
  • Weight changes or bloating – metabolism can slow and fat distribution may shift. 
  • Joint and muscle aches – general stiffness or pain without clear cause. 

💭 Emotional and Cognitive Symptoms 

  • Mood changes – increased irritability, anxiety, or low mood. 
  • Brain fog – difficulty concentrating or remembering things. 
  • Reduced motivation or confidence – a feeling of not being “yourself.” 
  • ❤️ Reproductive and Sexual Health 
  1. Vaginal dryness or discomfort – can cause pain during sex. 
  1. Reduced libido – lower interest in sexual activity. 
  1. Bladder changes – increased frequency or urinary tract infections.

  • Breast tenderness or changes 
  • Hair thinning or dry skin 
  • Heart palpitations (in some women) 
  • Changes in body temperature regulation
